Starting Your Day Right

The best way to wake up in the morning is to start your day on purpose. By that I mean you should start your day knowing how you want your day to go.

Prepare your day the night before

If it’s a work night (or a Friday night) I clean up my desk (and my computer desktop) so when I get to it on my next workday, it’s a clean palate, ready for me to be productive. Then, I look at my planner to see what I need to do the next day. I also glance at the rest of the week so there aren’t any surprises.

Get cleaned up and ready for your day early

I like to wake up early so I can take it easy in the morning. I leisurely take a shower, brush my teeth, and get dressed—yes, even though I work from home. I don’t like to work in the same thing I relax in.

Slip into your day easy without feeling stressed

Coffee is my morning drink of choice 95% of the time. However, since it’s getting colder, I do like to change it up depending on my mood and the weather. Sometimes it’s tea, hot cocoa, or hot cider. No matter what, there’s always a glass of water with me as well.

Each morning, I visualize how I want my day to go. Productive? Relaxed? Is it a workday filled with deadlines? Is it a craft/hobby day where I want to finish specific projects? Is it an errand/chore day?

Write out your to-do list

I make this a part of my morning routine. But it’s not just any part, it’s what I do right before I dive into my day. I sit at my desk with a cup of coffee and I write my to-do list out by hand. Then I post it in a place where I can easily access it. Sometimes that’s in my wallet if I’m running errands. Sometimes that’s just washi-taped to my desk in my office.
